Under-Voltage Protection
Under-voltage relays are specifically set to trip when voltage falls below a certain percentage of the rated voltage, typically 85–90%, depending on the stage of protection. Causes of under-voltage include increased load, transformer failure, or faults in the system. The relay ensures that equipment does not operate under insufficient voltage, which could lead to overheating or malfunction .
Over-Voltage Protection
Over-voltage relays operate similarly but trip the circuit when voltage exceeds a preset maximum. This prevents insulation breakdown, electrical fires, and damage to sensitive equipment .
